Last, 30th of November, we celebrated the XV Jornada de Famílies, organised by Dincat Plena Inclusió Catalunya, with the objective of sharing information and make network amonf the families and referent professionals of the entities. The meeting was held at Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai in El Prat de Llobregat.
Josep Tresserras, manager director, and Sara Quiles with Maria Pàmies, her social referent and coordinator of the social area, participated in the round table of Figures of support in the exercise of juridical capacity with the finality of assess the type of help to give to the persons with intellectual disability in the decision-making.
Sara explained the support she has received from the foundation during these years, her expectations, and the advantages of taking part in these meetings about the self-advocacy, celebrated in Graz and in Vilnius. On this issue, the families were surprised of their capacities and their degree of independence, facts that contributed to debate about the over protection exercised by some families on their children and break the preconceptions they have about the limits of the persons with disability.
Likewise, some attendants expressed their concern about the future of their relatives when they are no longer live. They were also interested in knowing the alternatives and proceedings they should considerate. Josep Tresserras informed them widely about the programme of plan of future and how the entities are able to give them the necessary supports to work together this phase.
Raquel Manzano, accompanied by her social referent, Estefania González, shared the supports she received by Som – Fundació to make reality her project of Independent Life in a round table, chaired by David Villanueva, from Dincat. Raquel aroused emotions among the relatives and attendants with her story of fight to achieve living where and who she had decided. Besides, she was very pleased to have next to her her couple who accompanied her in the last phase of this process.
The meeting also included other round tables to discuss the inclusive education and the participation of families in the movements of transformation of the services.
At the meeting, the participants left clear the current situation of supports, the moment of change of the juridical framework to adequate to the convention and the modifications to be done in the Civil Code. We must consider that we go from a protectionist model to a model thought and focused on the person, respecting his/her wills and addressed to give support to the decision-making.
The meeting ended with the participation of the group “Tirant pel dret” that performed a play, with the collaboration of Rafa García and Rafi Vioque whom we support. This performance tried to interact with the audience exposing daily life situations of the people with inelectual disabilities.
