At Som – Fundació we have a very clear commitment: we want the people we support to understand and take part in what we do. For this reason, we have published our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan in easy-to-read format and in three languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.

This document explains in a clear and simple way what our goals are, what challenges we face as an organisation and where we want to go in the coming years.

Cognitive accessibility, a tool for inclusion
Adapting the Strategic Plan into easy-to-read format is another example of Som – Fundació’s commitment to cognitive accessibility. This tool helps people with intellectual disabilities to read and understand the information that affects or interests them, so that they can make decisions and take part in the daily life of the foundation. Autonomy, inclusion and self-determination are values that guide our everyday work. And providing documents in easy-to-read format is a concrete way of putting these values into practice.

Why is it important for people to know about the Strategic Plan?
The Strategic Plan is a document that explains what we want to do to improve the lives of the people we support. That’s why it is important for them to be able to read and understand it easily. In this way:

✅ They know where we are heading as a foundation.

✅ They can share their opinion about the actions we propose.

✅ They feel more connected and listened to.

✅ Their active participation is encouraged.

One more step on our path towards accessibility
This is not the first document we have published in easy-to-read format. A few months ago, we adapted our Annual Report 2023 into this format. It was the first time we sent it in paper format to all the people we support. We were pleasantly surprised to receive very positive feedback about this gesture, as it allowed people to get a global view of our activity as an organisation and to understand the most important data. This positive response encourages us to keep working to produce more materials in easy-to-read format.

To adapt and validate the Strategic Plan in Catalan into easy-to-read format, we collaborated with Femarec, a special employment centre with experience in cognitive accessibility. We thank them for their work and their support in making this project possible.

We keep moving forward
Our Cognitive Accessibility programme is not only about adapting our organisation’s documents. We have a well-established team specialised in adapting and validating texts in easy-to-read format. We also participate in technological innovation projects through a collaboration agreement with the Transmedia Catalonia group, the AccessCat Network and the Cognitive Accessibility Working Group of Dincat.

Currently, the people we support are taking part in the research of the WEL Project and soon we will start a new project to test accessible devices.

For all these reasons, publishing the Strategic Plan in easy-to-read format is another step in our commitment to building a more transparent, participatory, and accessible organisation. We want everyone to understand where we are heading and feel part of the journey. That’s why we will keep working to break down barriers and open up new spaces for participation.
