Last Thursday we have participated in the first national meeting about gender and disability We are diverse. It was a meeting organized by the Asociación Liber and it that was held in person in Madrid.
We went there with Asun, a woman we support in making decisions. Asun is part of the Community of Woman Leaders of the Asociación Liber, created to promote the participation of women with intellectual disabilities in decision-making bodies, as trustees boards. Margui Grau, who is responsible for Som’s Social Area, also went there.
This meeting has been very necessary and enriching, in order to reflect on the challenges and objectives posed by the intersection of gender and disability. We spoke with María Rosa Ruiz, who is the general director of the Federación de Mujeres Progresistas, Cristina Paredero, member of the board of directors of Plena Inclusión España and Isabel Caballero, coordinator of the Fundación CERMI Mujeres.
We also discussed gender differences in support for legal capacity in decision-making and how it affects the people we support, and learned about the annual report of Asociación Liber’s Equality Commitment.
We love attending these meetings! We enrich ourselves with different points of view and have the freedom to debate the challenges posed by the full participation of people with intellectual disabilities in our society.
