For Som – Fundació, it is important to reflect every four years on our situation to plan future actions and anticipate the environment. In the last two years, the organization has adapted to significant changes. One of the most notable is the implementation of Law 8/2021, which reformed civil and procedural legislation in the exercise of legal capacity in decision-making for people with disabilities. There is also Decree Law 19/2021, which adapted the Catalan Civil Code to state legislation. The modification of the second book of the Catalan Civil Code is still pending.

New Strategic Plan

As a result, as leaders in supporting legal capacity, we must be proactive in defending the rights of the people we support. The previous Strategic Plan allowed us to get closer to the needs of the people we accompany, guiding them in the development of their life projects based on criteria of quality, responsibility, and transparency.

Now, the new Strategic Plan builds on the lines of the previous document and incorporates new social and technological challenges, such as artificial intelligence, to improve people’s quality of life. The new paradigm of decision-making support will also be reviewed and consolidated to ensure respect for the will, desires, and preferences of individuals. Another challenge is to care for the professional team and strengthen training in digital skills.

Team vision

To ensure a comprehensive and representative vision, a steering group was formed, consisting of 8 people, including representatives from different areas, the Works Council, the Management Team, and the Board of Trustees. This group held 8 in-person meetings to discuss and establish the plan’s main guidelines. Additionally, 2 surveys were conducted among the workers, 62 interviews were held with the people we support, and several meetings and surveys were carried out with board members and Som Futur participants, receiving a total of 24 responses from people and families in the program. In total, 161 people participated in this process, ensuring that the Strategic Plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire Som – Fundació community.

In summary, we believe that this III Strategic Plan will help us address the challenges arising from the legislative reform for people with disabilities and, at the same time, will allow us to consolidate a more efficient and sustainable care model, with the goal of reaffirming ourselves as the leading entity in the sector.
