Last Saturday, December 16, was a special day for the great family of Som – Fundació. On this memorable day, the Hotel Barceló Sants in Barcelona became the meeting point for 564 people: people with intellectual disabilities whom we support, workers from the organization from all over Catalonia, volunteers and members of our board of trustees. Our foundation is growing, we are supporting more and more people. That is why this meeting, which began more than 30 years ago as an intimate lunch, has transformed into a multitudinous event.
In fact, the magic of the Christmas season filled every corner of the atmosphere. For many of the attendees, this is not just a party, but a small spark of excitement that illuminates the complicated moments that these dates can bring. Many of the people we offer support do not have a stable family network, which is why this meeting aims to provide small moments of warmth and companionship in the midst of the festivities.
The magic of Christmas
The lunch was an experience full of emotions. Not only did we share a table and delicious meals, but we also celebrated special moments. During dessert, we recognized the talent of the Christmas Postcard Contest, a space where creativity and the Christmas spirit shone through in each work presented. In addition, we paid an emotional tribute to our colleague, Marijuana, who will soon retire, recognizing her dedication and contribution to the Som – Foundation family.
No wonder, for us it is crucial that this season is full of joy and surprises. That’s why no person was left without their Christmas present. Our workers transformed into goblins of joy, spreading smiles and excitement at every table, filling the atmosphere with an energy contagious from the shared happiness.
The high point of this day was the end, where the music flooded the space and invited everyone to dance and enjoy. It was a moment of connection and joy, where laughter was the soundtrack of such a special day.
In short, our Christmas lunch was more than just an event; it was a testimony to the power of union, solidarity and the spirit of sharing during these dates.
