At Som – Fundació, we have once again taken part in a European‑level conference. On this occasion, we travelled to Vicenza to attend Europe in Action 2026, organised by Inclusion Europe and the association Anffas. This event is a key space for advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, where our supported decision‑making model generated notable interest.

The conference was attended by Raúl Olivera, Technical Advisor, and Josep Tresserras, Head of Institutional Relations, representing Som – Fundació. The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen connections with organisations from different European countries and to actively contribute to the debate on how to guarantee the right to decide with real and effective support.

Within this framework, Som – Fundació delivered a workshop on supported decision‑making, which also included the presentation of the Som Futur programme. The session attracted strong interest from participants from various European countries, who particularly valued the practical, personalised and human rights–based approach of our model.

A rights-based support model

Som – Fundació’s model understands decision-making as a process, not a single act. Support is tailored to each person and each decision, based on their will, preferences and life goals. Accessible information, easy-to-read tools and interdisciplinary teamwork are key elements of this approach.
This model ensures that persons with disabilities remain the decision-makers in their own lives, with appropriate support when needed.

European recognition through Inclusion Europe

The recent Inclusion Europe report on the right to decide recognises Spain’s positive position following the adoption of Law 8/2021 and highlights Som – Fundació’s model as a European good practice.
The report emphasises that effective implementation and cultural change are essential, and points to Som – Fundació as an example of how supported decision-making can work in practice.

Looking ahead

Participation in Europe in Action and recognition at European level reinforce Som – Fundació’s commitment to advancing supported decision-making across Europe, building partnerships and ensuring that everyone can live a full life with the right support.
