At Som – Fundació we have joined the Popular Legislative Initiative that seeks to guarantee that social services for people with disabilities are managed by non-profit social initiative organisations. The proposal aims to ensure that social services providing personalised, comprehensive and continuous support are delivered by non-profit organisations rooted in the community and guided by a social mission. With this step, we reinforce our commitment to a person-centred model of care and to the protection of rights.
The Parliament of Catalonia has admitted the initiative for processing, and the official signature collection period is now open. 50,000 valid signatures must be gathered up to the 15th of April for the proposal to enter parliamentary debate. This process represents an opportunity to strengthen a system that puts people at the centre and prioritises quality support over economic profit.
At Som – Fundació we fully share this objective. Our experience has shown us that supporting people with disabilities requires commitment, proximity and continuity. That is why we have joined the campaign and set up signature points at our offices in Barcelona, Lleida and Tàrrega, making it easier for staff, families and citizens to take part.
We believe in a public and community-based model, built together with social organisations and with the voices of those directly involved. This Popular Legislative Initiative is a democratic tool to defend this model and to ensure that the rights of people with disabilities remain at the heart of social policies.
