This Saturday, December 21st, the Som – Fundació family celebrated the traditional Christmas gathering at the Hotel Barceló Sants in Barcelona. An event that, like every year, brought together people with intellectual disabilities we support, staff, volunteers, and board members to share a warm and joyful moment. This year, we were joined by a special guest: Marta Obdúlia, the new director of the Institut Municipal de Persones amb Discapacitat de Barcelona (IMPD), who accompanied us during this meaningful occasion.
A Gathering to Remember
The event unfolded with delight, marked by lively conversations and a menu that pleased everyone. During the meal, we experienced remarkable moments that filled the room with applause and smiles. First, the awards for the Christmas Card Contest were handed out. Maite Samón, the first runner-up, received her well-deserved recognition, along with two special prizes for Natalia Cardo and Carme Ferrer.
Next, we paid tribute to the employees who retired this year or will do so in 2025. Antonio Ferrer, Xavier Lorén, and Sílvia Martínez received commemorative plaques in gratitude for their dedication and commitment to Som – Fundació. The speeches during this moment were heartfelt, and many couldn’t help but shed a tear or two.
The Spirit of Christmas: Gifts and Smiles
The most anticipated moment arrived with the gift distribution. As tradition dictates, the staff transformed into Christmas elves, bringing magic and joy to every table. The faces of joy and surprise among the attendees were the greatest gift of this gathering, filled with small, cherished moments we will always remember.
With this event, we close the year with a collective wish to keep growing together and working to make every day count. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you at the Epiphany Meal in Lleida!
